Gwinnett Environmental Center

The 59,000 square-foot science and cultural center located on 233 acres near the Mall of Georgia, is surrounded by an area that is rich in both natural and cultural history. The center’s more than 233 acres of land will also be used for additional hands-on science education programs, cultural and history education programs, as well as numerous passive recreation opportunities such as bike riding and hiking.
The center will also be Gwinnett County’s first "green" building to meet the standards of the U.S. Green Building Council's—Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED). The center’s design is targeted for a LEED Silver-Level certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. As a result of the center’s sustainable design strategy, storm-water runoff will be minimized, indoor air quality will be improved, energy use will be reduced by 35%, and water use will be reduced by 50%.

ProLandscapes' scope of work included the installation of the largest green roof in the south - and the largest sloped green roof in the country. The reforestation design required the design, layout and installation of hundreds of trees along with irrigation. Complementing the environmental park design was approximately five miles of asphalt and mulch trails. ProLandscapes managed the installation and construction of a water feature which serves as the re-circulating cooling system for the building.
